Description:
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the cutting-edge, interdisciplinary Centre for Health Technology (CHT). You will have the opportunity to work with colleagues specialising in digital health, software engineering, psychology, and health services research to deliver and contribute to evaluating and implementing innovative technologies, services, and approaches to transform health and social care. You will be managing the day-to-day running of an evaluation of a digital health system for people with Parkinson’s disease (PwP) clinically led by Professor Camille Carroll and engineered by Professor Edward Meinert. Parkinson’s disease can cause a wide range of non-motor symptoms, including pain and problems with mental health, memory and sleep. The system you will be evaluating is co-developed with PwP and their care partners to provide self-management support for families and facilitate timely clinical interventions. The study aims to establish evidence of the impact of the system on patient confidence, knowledge, and skills for self-management of NMS, symptom burden, and quality of life of PwP and their care partners. We anticipate that the use of this system will result in improved quality of life and increased knowledge and confidence for managing symptoms while safely reducing the time spent by health care professionals on manageable non-motor symptoms. You will facilitate ongoing product development and innovation through technology and innovation strategy through with an objective of research translation underpinned by ethical considerations. You will be responsible for the product development of our digital health technologies and developing an ethical framework for the use of AI in our products and services while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. The University of Plymouth has a strong interdisciplinary research ethos which is supported by our three strategic Research Institutes: the Marine Institute, the Sustainable Earth Institute, and the Plymouth Institute of Health and Care Research. As a member of our academic community, you’ll be expected to contribute to our recognised research strengths. Working holistically across the University, you will be challenged to innovate, collaborate and deliver impactful research contributions as part of a systems thinking approach to addressing today’s global challenges. You will have the opportunity to hone your skills in mixed-methods research, product development of AI and the development of ethical application of AI. Specific activities you will be engaged in will include: Project management. Product management. Ethical framework review and implementation. Conducting literature reviews. Analysing quantitative and qualitative data (with statistical and thematic analyses). Preparing papers for publication. You will be supported and supervised by Professor Meinert and his staff working in collaboration with Professor Carroll, the co-lead on this project. You will have a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; for example, computing science, software engineering, health services research, psychology, nutrition. You will have excellent communication skills, including presenting research and preparing papers for publication. You will have the ability to work independently to solve problems and carry out high-quality research. You will have the ability to balance and prioritise a varied workload and work under pressure to meet deadlines. You are comfortable and have experience with working collaboratively and presenting research findings. Please demonstrate how you meet the essential criteria outlined in the knowledge, qualifications, training and experience elements of the job description in your supporting statement. Please submit a CV and Covering letter along with your completed application.
